Why Do I Need A Surge Protector?

Utility power supplied to electrical outlets is sometimes inconsistent. The short-duration voltage surges or spikes that occasionally happen can damage components in electronic devices such as computers and workstations. In addition to equipment damage, irretrievable data loss may occur. In the U.S., the nominal or standard voltage supplied to household and office wiring is 120 volts. A voltage surge or spike can cause electronic components to overheat, either immediately destroying them or causing permanent damage that can lead to premature failure.

A surge protector or surge suppressor provides protection against power surges. This device is located in the power circuit between the utility power outlet and the connected electronic equipment. Surge protectors work by diverting excess voltage to the ground, allowing only the nominal voltage to travel through the wiring to connected devices. This is accomplished using a variable resistance component in the surge protector called a metal oxide varistor (MOV). Under normal voltage conditions, the resistance of the MOV is such that it remains closed. As utility voltage increases beyond nominal, the MOV resistance decreases accordingly which forces the unwanted overvoltage to ground, maintaining a constant flow of nominal voltage to sensitive electronic equipment.

USB-C

USB-C is emerging as the industry-standard connector for transmitting both data and power. Compared to USB-A, USB-C is capable of much faster charging and can deliver power at up to 100 watts at 20 volts. This means larger devices can now be charged through a USB connection, including smartphones, gaming devices, tablets, laptops and more.

Plus, the USB-C is symmetrical, with no “up” or “down” orientation so it never needs to be flipped to fit into the port.

Photosensor Nightlight

Photosensor Nightlight automatically turns on when environment gets dark, and off when it gets illuminated. Provides safety and style in bedrooms, hallways, nurseries, and any other area it would be convenient to have a nightlight.

Is this for indoor or outdoor use?

Indoor use only.

Can I plug another surge protector or power strip into this unit?

Not recommended.

How does the night light work?

There is a photosensor that will turn on the night light once the room reaches a certain level of darkness. It will turn off once the light in the room comes back.

If my surge protector has a surge light, should it be illuminated?

Yes. The surge light should be illuminated. This indicates that the CyberPower surge suppressor is functioning properly. If the light is not illuminated, it indicates that the surge protector has received a catastrophic surge and will need to be replaced. CyberPower will replace the surge suppressor free of charge, provided the warranty terms and conditions are met.

If my surge protector has a ground light, should it be illuminated (green)?

Yes. The ground indicator light should be illuminated. If the light is not illuminated, there is a problem with the AC outlet into which the CyberPower surge suppressor is plugged. If this is the case, please disconnect the surge suppressor until the problem is resolved. The problem must be resolved before the CyberPower surge suppressor can be used.

Common issues with an AC outlet include: bad ground, missed ground, or reversed wiring (usually due to sub-standard wiring, typical in residential housing built prior to 1980). You may need to contact a qualified electrician to repair/upgrade the outlet.

NOTE: Using the CyberPower surge suppressor when the ground indicator light is not illuminated will void the warranty.
